WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Hina) - U.S. President Bill Clinton on Tuesday evening extended congratulations to Croatia's President-elect Stjepan Mesic and expressed wish to cooperate closely with him, Premier Ivica Racan and the new Government
in Zagreb. Clinton's message, released on Tuesday night, read that the victory of Mesic was "a turning point for Croatia" and brought "the promise of genuine democracy and a normal life for Croatia's people, stronger ties between our two nations, and greater stability throughout southeast Europe," Clinton said. He added that the Croatian people "have clearly demonstrated their desire to see their country take its rightful place in Europe. The United States will do everything it can to help them reach their destination."
