"I offer my congratulations in the spirit and light of the task of
the Catholic Church, which Pope John Paul II described in Split in
the following way: 'The Church will, by supporting the efforts of
social categories and political forces, give its significant
contribution, especially by presenting its social doctrine and
putting its institutions at disposal for the education of new
generations. The Church encourages its believers to cooperate
effectively, as they have been doing from the beginning, in the
democratisation of wide areas of the country's social, political,
cultural and economic life, thus promoting harmonious development
of the overall Croatian society,'" Bozanic said in the message.
