ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives on Thursday afternoon continued its first session with a debate on a bill on the re-distribution of work hours on Monday, February 7. The session is being
chaired by Sabor President Zlatko Tomcic. According to the bill, February 7, the day when the second round of presidential elections takes place, should be proclaimed a holiday. That day would be compensated for on a non-working day within 30 days to six months from the law's going into force. There are two reasons for adopting this law - the economic and the political one, said Vice-Premier Zeljka Antunovic. On the one hand, there is an intention not to inflict more damage to the economy with another holiday and on the other hand, all Croatian citizens should be enabled to go to the polls, she added. After a short debate, the MPs adopted the law in urgent procedure, however, with several amendments
ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The Croatian National Sabor's House of
Representatives on Thursday afternoon continued its first session
with a debate on a bill on the re-distribution of work hours on
Monday, February 7. The session is being chaired by Sabor President
Zlatko Tomcic.
According to the bill, February 7, the day when the second round of
presidential elections takes place, should be proclaimed a
holiday. That day would be compensated for on a non-working day
within 30 days to six months from the law's going into force.
There are two reasons for adopting this law - the economic and the
political one, said Vice-Premier Zeljka Antunovic. On the one hand,
there is an intention not to inflict more damage to the economy with
another holiday and on the other hand, all Croatian citizens should
be enabled to go to the polls, she added.
After a short debate, the MPs adopted the law in urgent procedure,
however, with several amendments. The most important one annuls a
regulation according to which the non-working day should be
compensated for on one of the two days-off in the week.
This prevents the possibility of employers' ordering workers to
work on a Sunday, said Snjezana Biga-Friganovic, chairwoman of the
Committee for Labour, Social Policy and Health.
The lower house also adopted another two amendments to the law.
According to one of them, the word 'redistribution' in the law and
its articles should be changed into 'rescheduling'.
