Crkvenac on Friday said he expected hard work in ensuring normal
functioning of public finances, filling the budget, and fulfilling
financial obligations toward foreign countries.
"I also expect that the financial system as a whole will be improved
and that we will make, already at the beginning, a huge contribution
to changes in the fiscal and overall policy," Crkvenac said on his
first day as the Finance Minister.
This morning Crkvenac held his first working meeting, which was
also attended by the former finance minister Borislav Skegro.
Members of the conference of department heads informed Crkvenac
about the ministry's most important activities and projects.
Crkvenac informed the conference about the basic principles the new
Government, run by Premier Ivica Racan, would be based on as well as
about its basic tasks.
Crkvenac said he expected the Ministry's staff to continue
contributing to the ministry's work according to the highest
standards, adding he was not there to replace anyone.
The first move to be made is an agreement on relations and requests
in conducting the further fiscal and budgetary policy, which will
represent elements for the Government programme, to be presented to
the Sabor on February 9. One of the basic changes, he said, will be
strong support for production, entrepreneurship, export and
sustaining economic stability in 2000.
