PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE LEDIC ADVOCATES REVIVAL OF MORALITY

SLAVONSKI BROD/KUTINA, Jan 11 (Hina) - Independent presidential candidate Ante Ledic on Tuesday presented his candidacy under the slogan "Man of His Word - Man of Action" to the residents of Slavonski Brod. Ledic said his name was not connected with any scandals, abuse or irregularities in the process of ownership transformation. "I will be the happiest man in the world if, as the Croatian President, I will be able to use the potential of the Croatian people to the benefit of every Croatian man and the Croatian state," Ledic said, adding his intention was not to "be more important than I am or to make people around me less important than they are." Ledic said his orientation was neither left nor right but rather upright, adding he expected to win the votes of Croatian citizens regardless of their party membership or support. Ledic advocates the revival of morality and every other kind of revival in the Croatian society, as well as the reduction of public spending, a more modest presidential office, and the tripartition of authority within a semi-presidential system. An important issue in Ledic's programme is the prevention of "bribery and corruption, protectionism and illegal privileges of any kind." Ledic emphasises the importance of the care for the poor, feeble, invalids and pensioners and promises to see that economic progress is secured by "competent, diligent and good individuals, regardless of their nationality, religion, party membership, or whose relatives they are."
