Committee, which is to determine the party's candidate for the
January 24 presidential election, started a session behind closed
doors on Wednesday morning.
More than 1,000 members of the extended Head Committee and
presidents of town and municipal HDZ branches are attending the
session.
At its last night's session the HDZ Presidency decided by secret
ballot to support Mate Granic as its candidate in the upcoming
presidential election and obliged its members to support Granic at
today's session of the Head Committee.
The second party candidate, Vladimir Seks, who last night did not
approve that his candidacy be decided by secret ballot, said he
would make his final decision on the candidacy at today's session of
the party Head Committee.
According to HDZ regulations on the election of presidential
candidates, there is a possibility of announcing one's candidacy
with 100 signatures gathered from participants in the session of
the Head Committee. According to unofficial sources, such support
could be sought by Zvonimir Separovic and Andrija Hebrang.
