Because legal preconditions had not been fulfilled, relating to
necessary 10,000 signatures for a candidacy, the Commission has
dismissed 13 candidacies.
Asked if the Commission had checked whether a citizen had signed for
two or more candidates (by law a citizen can sign for only one
candidate), Ramuscak said this could be checked only on the basis of
filed complaints.
After Friday's official list of candidates, the electoral campaign
for the presidential elections, to take place on January 24, will
being after midnight Saturday and will last until midnight on
January 22.
If no candidate should receive more than 50 per cent of votes, two
candidates with the most votes will participate in the second round
of the poll on February 7.
