THE HAGUE, Jan 6 (Hina) - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed Italian Law Professor Faust Pocar as a new judge in the International War Crimes Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), this Hague-based Tribunal reported on
Thursday. On February 1, Pocar replaces Italian Judge Antonio Cassese, a former President of the ICTY, who announced his departure from the Tribunal last year. Judge Pocar is to work for the ICTY until the expiry of Cassese's tenure on 16 November 2001. Pocar, aged 60, teaches international law at Milan University. Fifteen years ago he was elected as a member of the UN human rights committee and chaired this body in 1991 and 1992.
