ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - Tomislav Mercep, the President of the Croatian Populist Party (HPS), on Wednesday submitted his application for the presidential election to the Croatian National Electoral Commission. He collected over 18,000
signatures for the candidacy. Asked by reporters what he was expecting from the presidential ballot, Mercep said it should show who was more prudent before the Croatian people and hoped that sincerity, fairness and order should win over promises. "Everybody who want firm and honest authority will cast ballots for me," Mercep stressed adding that it was impermissible that those who became rich thanks to illicit activities should be Croatian leaders. He added that he was against reduction of powers of the President of the Republic as it was no right moment for such a move in Croatia.(hina) mm ms
