Mesic on Thursday called on the entire Croatian political scene and public to reach a consensus on the country's basic development tasks. Mesic spoke at a reception at his office which was organised for the most senior officials of the Croatian defence system on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the formation of the Croatian army. Present were also government members, headed by Premier Ivica Racan, and parliament deputy speakers. 2001 was a difficult year, Mesic said, adding the economy had only begun to leave the state of depression which had lasted several years.
