BELGRADE, Dec 6 (Hina) - Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic said at a meeting in Belgrade on Thursday he was confident Balkan countries would join the European Union "only if they cooperate among each other and advance
relations with their neighbours." Svilanovic was speaking at the opening of a two-day meeting called "Writing and Understanding the History of the Balkans", which is held at the Goethe Institute, with historians from Balkan countries attending. He called for setting a precedent in mutual apologies among former Yugoslav states for the suffering in the past decade, adding it would happen sooner or later. "The improvement of relations between Yugoslavia and Croatia would help improve inter-ethnic relations," Svilanovic said, adding Yugoslav diplomacy would support all meetings promoting understanding and confidence among states.(hina) sb rml
