SARAJEVO, Nov 24 (Hina) - Despite the fact that it was the lead story in all Bosnian media on Saturday, the issuing of an indictment for genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina against former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic elicited
surprisingly few reactions. Almost none of prominent political and public figures in the country commented on the latest indictment. All dailies reported on their cover pages Milosevic was finally rightfully accused of crimes he was responsible for, including the death of 200,000 people, killed in the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. "The truth the victims of Milosevic's aggressive policy have known from the beginning and offered to the world has finally been given its legal form," reads a commentary in Sarajevo's Dnevni Avaz daily. Even the nationalist "Glas srpski" from Banja Luka reported on its cover page Milosevic would be tried for genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Another Banja Luka paper
SARAJEVO, Nov 24 (Hina) - Despite the fact that it was the lead story
in all Bosnian media on Saturday, the issuing of an indictment for
genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina against former Yugoslav President
Slobodan Milosevic elicited surprisingly few reactions.
Almost none of prominent political and public figures in the
country commented on the latest indictment.
All dailies reported on their cover pages Milosevic was finally
rightfully accused of crimes he was responsible for, including the
death of 200,000 people, killed in the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
"The truth the victims of Milosevic's aggressive policy have known
from the beginning and offered to the world has finally been given
its legal form," reads a commentary in Sarajevo's Dnevni Avaz
daily.
Even the nationalist "Glas srpski" from Banja Luka reported on its
cover page Milosevic would be tried for genocide in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
Another Banja Luka paper, the opposition "Nezavisne novine", ran a
feature with the text of the indictment.
The latest genocide indictment has caused concern in the Bosnian
Serb entity.
The Serb member of the Bosnian Presidency, Zivko Radisic, said in
Banja Luka today "there are others as responsible as Milosevic" and
those people were in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
An advisor to the Bosnian Serb Premier on relations with the Hague
war crimes tribunal, Sinisa Djordjevic, warned that the entity's
authorities were facing a very serious problem.
The fact that Milosevic will be tried for genocide makes Republika
Srpska a culprit as well.
The municipal committee of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA)
from Srebrenica issued a statement stressing the fact the Bosnian
Serb entity was a result of genocide.
If the one who created and ordered the implementation of such a
policy is tried, the elimination of the consequences of that policy
will have to be seriously considered, too, the party said.
Djordjevic told reporters in Banja Luka Republika Srpska and
Yugoslavia would have to prepare for challenging genocide charges
regardless of what Milosevic thought about it.
The advisor to Prime Minister Mladen Ivanic is obviously aware of
the fact "Dnevni Avaz" stressed - Republika Srpska, as an "entity
founded on monstrous crimes", cannot count on survival if Milosevic
is convicted of genocide.
