ZAGREB/BJELOVAR, Nov 15 (Hina) - The Bjelovar County Prosecutor's Office on Thursday issued a non-final indictment against seven Virovitica residents charging them with war crimes against civilians. The indictment will become final
once confirmed by the court. According to the indictment, the seven participated in the torture and killing of civilians in Virovitica in the period between November and mid-December 1991, thus breaching the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians. The court procedure against the seven men began in late September 2001, after almost a year-long police investigation, requested by the county prosecution. Five accused men have been in custody at the Bjelovar County Prison since September 2001, while the other two have been released in line with a Supreme Court ruling and will defend themselves in freedom.(hina) np sb
