ZAGREB, Nov 21 (Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic and Assistant Labour and Welfare Minister Nino Zganec announced on Wednesday the adoption of new laws on family and the prevention of domestic violence, to
be passed by June 30 next year, as well as a bill on changes to the Law on Criminal Procedure, saying this would create a legal framework for the prevention of violence against children and women. At a round table on domestic violence, held at the Government's Human Rights Office on Wednesday, the government officials and representatives of non-government associations said the figures bore witness to the difficult position of women and minors, victims of domestic violence. A total of 5,830 cases of domestic violence in 1995 increased to 8,391 in 1999. According to police data, between July 1999, when changes to the Family Law were adopted, and March 31 last year, 974 perpetrators

bore witness to the difficult position of women and minors, victims
of domestic violence. A total of 5,830 cases of domestic violence in
1995 increased to 8,391 in 1999. According to police data, between
July 1999, when changes to the Family Law were adopted, and March 31
last year, 974 perpetrators of domestic violence were reported to
the police and 171 have been processed so far. Of 1,591 victims of
domestic violence, 398 were minors.
