PRISTINA, Nov 17 (Hina) - Kosovo voters went to the polls in a Saturday general vote under tight security measures. The vote should be the first step towards the completion of the mandate of the UN administration, which has been
governing the province for more than two years. Ethnic Albanians, who make up 90 percent of the population, went to the polls in relatively large numbers, said officials of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which organised the election. More than 40% of the electorate cast their ballots this morning and OSCE officials expect a turnout of 70% by the end of the day. OSCE director Peter Erben said Kosovo Serbs had not shown much interest in the election, with only 11% ethnic Serbs going to the polls in Serbia and Montenegro.
