ROME, Nov 11 (Hina) - Mirko Tremaglia, an Italian government
minister in charge of emigrants and member of the National
Alliance, has supported Italian WWII refugees from Croatia and
Slovenia who are fighting for their property, the Trieste-based
Piccolo daily reports on Sunday.
Tremaglia is aware of the problems Italian Foreign Minister Renato
Ruggiero is facing in the solution of this sensitive issue, says the
paper.
Italian WWII refugees from Croatia and Slovenia believe the
principle of the inviolability of property has been breached by all
agreements signed between Italy and former Yugoslavia after the
1947 peace agreement, which regulated that their property would not
be confiscated.
Under a draft friendship agreement between Croatia and Italy, Italy
recognises all previous agreements which regulated the issue of the
Italian property, including the one under which real estate was
used to pay war reparations to former Yugoslavia and the Rome
Accords of 1983 which bound Yugoslavia to pay Italy USD110 million
in compensation for the property of Italian refugees in the former B
zone in Istria.
Ruggiero should meet representatives of Italian refugees on
November 19 to explain to them how they will be indemnified.
