7,000 POLICE, 2,000 ADDITIONAL KFOR TROOPS FOR KOSOVO ELECTION

PRISTINA, Nov 10 (Hina) - NATO's peacekeepers in Kosovo (KFOR), the police of the UN Mission (UNMIK), and the Kosovo Police Force will step up security during parliamentary elections in Kosovo on the 17th. Local and international police will number almost 7,000, UNMIK spokesman Derek Chappell said on Saturday. KFOR spokesman Daz Slaven said the number of NATO peacekeepers would be increased by 2,000 troops. UNMIK has extended special protection for a certain number of candidates to last even after election day. Chappell said the police had prepared for the ballot very well, with emergency teams to take over in case of security threats.(hina) ha
