the author's home town Djakovo. Consulting editor Mira Kolar Dimitrijevic said the book was the first publication about the history of a minority in Croatia. Germans in the Djakovo area used to account for 21% of the local population, and their number today is insignificant, she said. "The presence of Germans in Djakovo and the Djakovo area from their settlement in the second half of the 18th century to their 'disappearance' in the middle of the 20th century has determined the history of that part of Croatia to a great extent," said the author.
