ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - A coordinating body of Homeland War associations is appalled at the "disgraceful" way in which the Croatian parliament passed a law on the rights of war veterans and the parliamentary speaker's statement that
the law must be passed due to pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Parliamentary speaker Zlatko Tomcic said on Thursday the government had pointed out the law should be passed before impending IMF and World Bank conferences. The war veterans' associations object to the fact that the law was passed without a discussion. "The law should have been adopted by consensus of all parliamentary parties, with the due acknowledgement of the legally founded remarks by the veterans' associations," they said in a statement concluding veterans "have been irreversibly humiliated and tricked by MPs who today voted on their fate."(hina) ha sb
