BELGRADE, Aug 29 (Hina) - After sitting in for seven hours, the
presidency of the Serbian ruling coalition DOS ended its session at
three o'clock this morning, with a compromise on the survival of the
heterogeneous political block, but without the Democratic Party of
Serbia (DSS) in the Serbian government.
The long awaited meeting of the DOS Presidency on the crisis in the
group of parties began around 08:00 hours yesterday. The session
was called by Yugoslav President and DSS president Vojislav
Kostunica after several weeks of the party's accusations flung at
the government's work and some of its members for being allegedly
involved in organised crime.
The DSS announced Kostunica will use the opportunity to show
evidence on corruption in the state and the involvement of
individuals in the government in crime, but, as the Yugoslav
Foreign Minister and head of the Serbian Civil Alliance (GSS),
Goran Svilanovic, put it, Kostunica again flung accusations
instead of showing any new evidence or details.
Svilanovic briefly said the DOS will remain a coalition with all its
eighteen parties, and the DSS remains adamant in not participating
in the work of the Serbian government.
Kostunica expressed "satisfaction" with the results of the
meeting, and stressed his party "will continue to cooperate with
the DOS to the extent and in the way it has done hitherto".
