ZAGREB, Sept 14 (Hina) - Acting in line with a proposal by the ministries of labour and welfare and education and sports, the Croatian government on Thursday decided that children whose families are receiving social welfare be
provided with allowances for the purchase of books for this school year. The funds, worth around eight million kuna (USD975,600), have been saved up by the said ministries. Assistance will be granted in the form of non-recurring allowances amounting to 400 kuna (USD49) per child. The Labour and Welfare Ministry believes some 20,000 children will receive such allowances. The allowances will not be given to children who have already been given free school books from other sources or granted non-recurring allowances in the same amount. Those who have been granted allowances for free school books lower than 400 kuna will be granted assistance in the amount of the difference between the previous
