for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on the occasion of two sealed
indictments from The Hague, scheduled to be held behind closed
doors at 13.00 hours Friday, is postponed until 15.00 hours.
Parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic told Hina "consultations have not
yet been completed", without going into detail.
The session was called at the request of the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) parliamentary bench, which demanded that government
representatives inform the parliament of the context of the Hague
indictments, namely whether they include unacceptable political
qualifications of the nature of the Homeland Defence War.
Several parliamentary benches, including the Croatian Social
Liberal Party (HSLS) and the HDZ, said they would demand that the
letter of complaints, which Prime Minister Racan forwarded to the
Tribunal, be read to the MPs.
HDZ representatives decided not to attend the session because it
will be held behind closed doors. They stressed the relations with
The Hague were very important, thus the discussion should be
public. Prime Minister Racan visited speaker Tomcic this morning,
after which he left the parliament.
Before the beginning of the session, the temperature in the
parliament increased. According to the number of MPs who registered
to participate in the discussion, the session could last until
early Saturday morning.
