SABOR TO DISCUSS COOPERATION WITH ICTY AT CLOSED-DOOR SESSION BY WEEK'S END

ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament will discuss Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the context of two Hague indictments recently handed to the Croatian government, at a closed-door session to take place by the end of this week, it was decided during Tuesday's party consultations in the parliament, which took place during a two-hour break in today's session. The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) parliamentary bench made a request for a closed-door session this morning. At the session Premier Ivica Racan should inform deputies if the Hague indictments contain unacceptable political assessments about the character of the Homeland War. The parliament should also decide about a referendum in which the citizens would decide if the Homeland War soldiers should receive the same legal treatment as members of the victorious armies in World War II. The HDZ parliamentary bench also requested a discussion on amendments to the Constitutional Law on Co-operation with the Hague Tribunal. Since the party benches of the ruling coalition agreed to HDZ's request, this item will be included in the agenda of an extraordinary parliament session to take place next week. (hina) np rml
