On Thursday, Croatia's Ambassador to the United States, Ivan
Grdesic, signed an agreement and additional protocol on NATO and
Partnership for Peace members' armed forces' position in Croatia.
On behalf of the Croatian government, Grdesic signed this
multilateral agreement in Washington in the presence of State
Department officials, including the State Secretary's deputy
assistant for Europe, Janet Bogue.
Croatia has shown its willingness to accept conditions for the
cooperation and to strengthen its legal order regarding a very
sensitive issue of the deployment of other countries' armed forces
on its territory, the ambassador said.
He is confident that the signed document would facilitate the
cooperation between Zagreb, NATO and the Alliance's member-
states.
Bogue agreed with him and pledged the United States' support to
Croatia's bids to enter NATO.
The contents of SOFA, which regulates issues about the status of
NATO and Partnership for Peace forces in the area of a member-
country, is the same for all the members that sign the document.
A month ago the Croatian government decided to sign SOFA.
