ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - The former management of Sisak's Ironworks will pay a minimum salary for May to the company's workers in the next ten days, it was decided on Thursday after some 300 workers protested in front of the government in downtown Zagreb. A new management, which will be appointed after the resolution of the current government crisis, will implement a rehabilitation programme and find a strategic partner, the president of the Croatian Association of Trade Unions, Zdenko Mucnjak, told reporters after talking to the ministers of economy and labour/ welfare, Goranko Fizulic and Davorko Vidovic. Unionists will meet the former management, which resigned three days ago, later today to agree on the payment of another minimum monthly salary, i.e. advance pay, according to Mucnjak. The results of the meeting will decide if Ironworks' 2,300 workers will discontinue a strike which began on July 5. The workers went on strike after receiving only minimum wages for April, despite having worked 12-hour shifts, even weekends, in adverse conditions. The minimum monthly wage totals 1,350 kuna (approx. $161). Owing to the different amounts of the minimum and full wage, Ironworks' workers demand 3.5 million kuna (approx. $416,500) from their employer. The protesters, who arrived in Zagreb aboard seven buses, dispersed peacefully after noon. (hina) ha sb
