SPLIT, June 19 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Labour Unions Alliance (URSH) Boris Kunst told today's news conference in Split that the government's policy is socially destructive and its attitude towards workers stepmotherly,
which ill certainly escalate with greater social discontent. It is political dilettantism to reduce the salaries of customs officers, police, firefighters and employees in the health and schooling systems at this time of increasing poverty and ahead of the tourist season, Kunst stressed. He announced extensive protests against the government "which offers no perspectives, solutions or development visions for settling such a difficult economic and social situation". He criticised the statement uttered by Vice-Premier Slavko Linic that workers' rights were too wide and should be curbed as they are detrimental to the development of entrepreneurship.(hina) lml sb
