PRISTINA, June 21 (Hina) - Pristina-based papers in Albanian on
Thursday report about events in Macedonia, where talks between
Macedonian and Albanian representatives on the resolution of the
crisis in the country have failed after seven days.
The highest circulation daily Koha Ditore reports on the cover page
that the talks were broken off after seven days and that Macedonia
was heading for war.
The Macedonian government believes Albanian demands are
exaggerated and aim at the federalisation of the country, reports
the daily and adds that Javier Solana requested in the European
Parliament on Wednesday that Albanian demands be modified to a more
moderate and acceptable level.
The daily Zeri says the reason for the failure of the talks was the
exclusion of international representatives rather than the
"unacceptable" demands of the Albanian side. It is clear, reads the
daily, that only direct mediation by the West can save Macedonia
from complete collapse.
The Rilindja paper assesses that Macedonia has entered a new phase
of the crisis and is headed for war instead opening a dialogue.
Talks have reached a deadlock because there are two completely
opposed concepts of the Macedonian state, reads the paper.
