PRISTINA, June 19 (Hina) - UN Civil Administrator for Kosovo Hans Haekkerup on Tuesday described as positive a two-day visit of a UN Security Council delegation to Kosovo but added the delegation did not notice any significant
progress in inter-ethnic relations in the province. Speaking after today's session of the province's provisional administrative council, he said that members of the UN Security Council were willing to help in fighting organised crime, terrorism and inter-ethnic violence. The first man of the UN Mission in Kosovo said the meeting also tackled the participation of Kosovo Serbs in institutions of authority and pointed to the importance of their taking part in a November general election. This is why the Security Council delegation visited Belgrade after the visit to Kosovo. The Belgrade meeting was productive and we have conveyed clear messages to the authorities in Belgrade
PRISTINA, June 19 (Hina) - UN Civil Administrator for Kosovo Hans
Haekkerup on Tuesday described as positive a two-day visit of a UN
Security Council delegation to Kosovo but added the delegation did
not notice any significant progress in inter-ethnic relations in
the province.
Speaking after today's session of the province's provisional
administrative council, he said that members of the UN Security
Council were willing to help in fighting organised crime, terrorism
and inter-ethnic violence. The first man of the UN Mission in Kosovo
said the meeting also tackled the participation of Kosovo Serbs in
institutions of authority and pointed to the importance of their
taking part in a November general election. This is why the Security
Council delegation visited Belgrade after the visit to Kosovo.
The Belgrade meeting was productive and we have conveyed clear
messages to the authorities in Belgrade that they should support
the participation of Kosovo Serbs in the province's general vote,
said Haekkerup, who visited Belgrade with the Security Council
delegation.
The meeting in Belgrade also tackled the problem of Albanians
imprisoned in Serbian prisons, but there was no concrete agreement
on their release.
