ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Thursday
afternoon continued its 12th session with a discussion on draft
amendments to the telecommunications law.
Deputy Transport Minister Pavle Komadina explained that the
proposed changes would be done in line with the commitments Croatia
assumed with entering the World Trade Organisation.
Thus, the Croatian Telecommunications Institute will be financed
by fees from the use of radio frequencies, addresses and numbers.
Under the amendments, the five-member Institute's Council will be
set up, and its members, appointed by the government, will be in
office for five years. The Council's task will be to appoint the
Institute's director and his/her deputy.
Yet another council - the Telecommunications Council - will be
appointed by the parliament. Its task will be to decide on granting
concessions.
On Thursday afternoon, MPs unanimously passed a final bill on
changes to the Law on Medicines and Medical Products, which
envisages price cuts for some 80 percent of medicines. The bill
changes the system of medicine pricing and envisages the pricing of
drugs in relation to drug prices in neighbouring countries, taking
into account the social situation in the country.
The Sabor also adopted a law on cultural councils.
Parliamentarians forwarded a package of five power supplies acts, a
draft act on the national science endowment, and a draft act on
courts for juvenile offenders into the second reading.
The Sabor ratified agreements on two loans which the Council of
Europe Development Bank will grant to Croatia for the resolution of
problems of returnees in the war-affected areas.
