THIRD VOLUME OF BOOK "CROATIAN NATIONAL PARLIAMENT" ISSUED

ZAGREB, May 29 (Hina) - The third volume of the book "Croatian National Parliament 1848-2000" by Ivo Peric, dealing with the period from 1918 to 2000, was presented at the Parliament today. Peric's work, academician Vlatko Pavletic said, is a great contribution to information about the work of the Croatian parliament, but also about Croatia's history, as the Sabor (Croatian parliament) had since the earliest days been a concept connected to the preservation of Croatia's statehood. Sabor's history is also the history of Croatian politics, culture, economy, Mirko Valentic of the Croatian History Institute said, stressing Peric managed through his three volumes to present not only the work of the modern, civil Croatian Sabor, but also the time in which it functioned. At the presentation Pavletic commented on some interesting excerpts from the Sabor's history. A rule-book dating from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century said any member of parliament who was to be absent from sessions for three consecutive days had to request permission from the parliament speaker. In case the MP wished to remain absent for a longer period of time, he was to seek permission from the entire parliament.
