ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) parliamentary deputies have submitted a request with the Constitutional Court asking that it assess the constitutionality of recently adopted changes to the Constitution and
declare them null and void. The HDZ deputies believe that the process of adoption of the constitutional changes, passed on March 28, gravely violates constitutional procedure because the House of Representatives adopted the changes without the House of Counties voicing it opinion on them first. The Constitutional Court has already turned down one request by the HDZ to mediate in a dispute between the House of Representatives and the House Counties, explaining that a request for assessing the constitutionality of a regulation could be considered only after its adoption. This decision was the basis for the party's latest request.(hina) sb rml
