ZAGREB, March 30 (Hina) - At the closed part of its Friday session,
chaired by Prime Minister Ivica Racan, the Croatian government
discussed a draft bill on privatisation, adopted a decision on the
writing off of a 160-million-kuna debt of the Sisak Ironworks and
introduced additional measures for the prevention of 'mad cow'
disease.
The government will voice its opinion on the draft bill on
privatisation at the open part of its next session, the
Government's public relations office said in a statement today.
In line with the government's decision on the termination of
rehabilitation activities at the Sisak Ironworks and its measures
aimed at the company's financial consolidation, all claims toward
the company by the Croatian Power Industry, Croatian Oil Company,
Croatia osiguranje insurance company, Croatian Waters, Croatian
Railway, Croatian Pension Insurance Fund, Croatian Privatisation
Fund, the City of Sisak, Sisak County and the Sisak Water
management, amounting to 160,316,347 kuna, will be written off.
At the same time, the government granted the payment of March, April
and May wages to the company's workers.
The government also adopted a plan of activities for preventing
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). The measures taken so far
with the aim of preventing the spreading of this disease have
granted Croatia the status of a 'mad cow' disease-free country.
The measures adopted today envisage additional prevention
activities. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will continue
informing the public timely about all measures aimed at observing
the disease in Croatia and other countries.
In an effort to appoint assistant ministers who would be as
competent as possible, the government has adopted a conclusion
regulating which minister can publicly announce a vacancy in his
ministry. The same candidate-selection procedure will be applied
to candidates competing for the posts of directors of all
administrative organisations.
