ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Party of Rights/Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HSP/HKDU) will not support draft constitutional changes, HSP's Anto Djapic said in the afternoon part of Thursday's session of the House of
Representatives. The HSP/HKDU bench opposes hasty and new changes to the Constitution as well as the dissolution of the House of Counties and advocates the strengthening of its role. The draft changes are unacceptable because the right to vote is made conditional on the place of residence or the payment of taxes, instead of on citizenship alone, he said. The Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) supports the draft changes and the party's Valter Drandic says the dissolution of the upper house need not mean an end to the articulation of the interests of local administration and self-government. One should define how those units would protect their interests, Drandic said.(hina) sb
