NEW YORK, Jan 29 (Hina) - The United Nations' Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on Monday elected Cameroon's Ambassador Martin Belinga-Eboutou as its President and Croatia's Ambassador Ivan Simonovic as its Vice-President. The two
ambassadors will hold this office for one year. Croatia has been for two years a member of ECOSOC - one of the three most important bodies of the World Organisation. ECOSOC includes 54 countries, chosen for a three-year-long term of office in accordance of the regional key. Ambassador Simonovic, being a representative of eastern European member-states of the UN, is expected to take over the chairmanship in 2002. This body of the UN convenes regularly once a year and the places of its meetings are alternatively New York and Geneva.(hina) ms
