Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said.
The indictment and warrants of arrest were initially issued against
the suspects on May 24, 1999 and forwarded to the then Yugoslav
Justice Minister, all UN member-states and Switzerland.
"Considering the General Assembly resolution of 10 November 2000
approving the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's application for
membership of the United Nations and in view of an application by
the Prosecutor, dated 22 January 2001, Judge Hunt re-issued the
warrants of arrest and orders for surrender with the inclusion of a
direction that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia make enquiries to
discover whether the above-named accused have 'assets located in
its territory and if so, adopt provisional measures to freeze such
assets ... until the accused are taken into custody'".
Judge Hunt's request explained "in accordance with Security
Council resolution 827 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is
obliged to cooperate fully with the International Tribunal and to
comply with any orders issued under Article 29 of the Statute," the
ICTY said in the statement.
