continue with its current engagement in Croatia and Southeast
Europe, incoming United States Ambassador to Croatia Lawrence
Rossin said in Zagreb Friday.
"This is a period of exciting progress in relations between our two
countries", Rossin said and added that political changes in Croatia
over the last year "have fundamentally transformed the character of
our bilateral relationship so now we can speak of a deepening
partnership between two peoples and two nations that share common
ideals and goals.
The new, third United States Ambassador to Croatia said he would
continue the work of his predecessor, William Montgomery, to assure
his country provided all possible help to Croatia in facing
challenges in many key areas.
Rossin said that the main objective of his three-year mandate was
the building of the partnership between the United States and
Croatia not only for the benefit of Croatia and the United States,
but also in view of the role that Croatia can play as the leader in
this region of Southeast Europe.
The Croatian economy has a lot of potential that is unrealised due
to the legacy of communism and politics that were persuaded in
recent years", Rossin said adding that the United Stated had
already provided a lot of technical and economic assistance to
Croatia.
This is something that I fully expect to continue under our new
administration, to help the Croatian government, along with our
European colleagues, to realise undertaken reforms and revitalise
Croatia's economy, Rossin said.
The United States incoming Ambassador to Croatia greeted reporters
at Zagreb's airport in Croatian and introduced his wife Deborah and
son Alex.
My family and I are happy to finally arrive in Zagreb, Rossin said in
Croatian.
Rossin is the third United States Ambassador to Croatia. The duty
was previously performed by Peter W. Galbraith (1993-1998) and
William D. Montgomery (1998-2000).
Rossin is a professional diplomat who has so far served diplomatic
interests of his country in Haiti and Spain, he worked in the
National Security Council and was a regional director for Southeast
Europe in the State Department. His last duty was the head of the
United States Office in Pristina.
