WASHINGTON, Jan 10 (Hina) - Croatian American representatives on
Wednesday held a meeting with the incoming United States'
Ambassador to Croatia, Lawrence Rossin, prior to his departure from
the States to Zagreb.
During their two-hour-long talks in Washington, Croatian Americans
and the U.S. diplomat exchanged opinions on all important issues in
the U.S.-Croatian relations.
Rossin said that during his ambassadorial post in the Croatian
capital it would be most important for him to promote the bilateral
cooperation in the economic field and to help Croatia to attract
American capital. Leaders of the Croatian community supported the
ambassador in such plans.
The National Federation of Croatian Americans (NFCA) President,
Steve Rukavina, notified in detail Rossin of a suggestion that the
NFCA and the US Chamber of Commerce, supported with assistance of
the USAID, help promote small and medium-sized businesses in
Croatia.
The Croatian fraternal society (HBZ) head, Bernard Luketich, asked
about the US standpoints on the work of the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Luketich said it seemed
to him that the ICTY's activities were in an unjustified manner
focused on Croatia's officials and generals.
The US ambassador and the Croatian Americans also considered
possibilities for the continuation of cooperation in the clearance
of mines from formerly occupied areas of Croatia.
Ambassador Rossin informed the delegation about his views on
Croatia's participation in NATO's Partnership for Peace
Programme.
