ZAGREB, Dec 29 (Hina) - This year has been full of difficulties for
Split's Brodosplit shipping company but the amassing of new losses
has been halted thanks to measures proposed by the government, CEO
Predrag Cudina told reporters earlier this week. #L#
Cudina said 2002 saw the change of the old board of directors, the
appointment of an interim board and the appointment of a new one.
He commended the government for giving a US$57 million guarantee
three weeks ago, saying it would facilitate operations and make
2003 calmer and less stressful.
Speaking about layoffs, Cudina recalled that programmes had been
drawn up for letting go 400 workers, chiefly those employed in
administration. So far 60 have been let go with severance pays, he
said, also adding that about 500 new workers had been employed over
the past couple of years.
Asked about the unsuccessful delivery of a tanker for a Greek
client, Cudina said the ship would be launched on Monday, December
30. He dismissed speculation that the original launching had been
sabotaged.
