"The final and complete solution to our relations with Croatia, or
at least most of them, will be possible with Croatia's accession to
the EU. My wish is that this occurs as soon as possible," Rop said
for Slovene Radio.
He added that at the very moment Croatia joined the EU, "big
problems" like the "border question, even that of the Krsko nuclear
power plant" would no longer exist.
Rop, whose new government should be confirmed on Thursday without
any major changes compared to the Janez Drnovsek Cabinet, supports
the idea that the Slovene parliament should ratify an agreement
with Croatia regarding the jointly owned Krsko.
Rop believes that the resolution of bilateral relations with
Croatia will be very complicated and "difficult".
"The initialled border agreement (with Croatia) is Slovenia's
calling card which it should adhere to, while the question of
(Croatian) clients of the (former) Ljubljana Bank is being resolved
on a multilateral level in Basel. Problems cannot be resolved
overnight but gradually," he said.
