Brigadier General Josip Stimac said that in the time of the
organisation of the Croatian Air Force, the command included air
units of pilots who had left the then Yugoslav People's Army.
Croatia, which had an embargo on arms supply, was forced to rely on
its own forces and managed to create an air force in a short time,
which played a great role in the "Storm" and "Flash" liberation
operations, Stimac said.
Croatian Army Chief-of-Staff Petar Stipetic congratulated members
of the Croatian Airforce on their day and said HRZ members were
performing their duties responsibly.
Defence Minister Zeljka Antunovic said the HRZ was facing new
challenges, stressing that she was confident its members would do
all they could to successfully deal with them.
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's letter was read out at the
ceremony and awards and acknowledgements were presented to
prominent HRZ and PZO members.
