"We haven't had major problems in any one company recently," Damir
Gasparovic, the coordinator for multinational companies of the
Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia, told reporters
on Monday.
He said that big international companies considered the social
clause much more than in previous years when less attention had been
paid workers' rights in privatised companies.
Gasparovic mentioned the example of hotel Cavtat in Dubrovnik where
the Spanish buyer proposed incorporating the social clause in the
sales contract.
According to Dwight Justice, a globalisation expert with the
International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, the basic labour
rights should be protected by the laws and governments of
individual countries.
Justice called on trade unions to get organised on the
international level in order to take as good a stance as possible in
relations with multinational companies.
