union federations, on Tuesday demanded of the government to include
them in the division of union property. #L#
The property includes 25,800 square metres of business facilities
of the former state union. Five union federations plan to divide the
property among themselves, without including independent unions.
Eleven autonomous unions, which gather 50,000 members, founded a
coordination body and forwarded its requests to Prime Minister
Ivica Racan, the government's office for social partnership and the
Economic and Social Council.
The unionists believe that all unions in Croatia are entitled to the
property, because up until 1990, according to the then law, all
workers were union members and the property was built with the funds
ensured from their membership fees.
