PULA, Dec 2 (Hina) - Istria County prefect, Ivan Jakovcic, who was elected as a vice-chairman of the Assembly of European Regions (AER) in Naples last Friday, on Monday said he would promote Croatia and Istrian projects while
performing his new duty.

elected as a vice-chairman of the Assembly of European Regions
(AER) in Naples last Friday, on Monday said he would promote Croatia
and Istrian projects while performing his new duty. #L#
"I will use my influence in the AER to promote Croatia in the field
of pan-European organisations, but also to present Istrian
projects, given that Istria has a strong regional identity not only
in Croatia but also in Europe," he said at a news conference.
According to jakovcic, it is doubtless that there is a halt in
Croatia's bids to come closer to the European Union and NATO, but
Europe, as he said, should take count of the fact that there are
strong pro-European forces in Croatia that can oppose nationalism
on the path towards the country's membership in the Union.
Therefore it is worth struggling for not allowing "a black hole" to
appear in the heart of Europe, after other countries in the area of
former Yugoslavia and south-east Europe may leave Croatia behind in
the process of stabilisation and association.
