The current vice-premier of Lower Austria, Liese Prokop, was re-
elected chairwoman with a second consecutive two-year term.
Prokop's other deputy is Adrien Zeller, chairman of the Alsace
Regional Council.
A two-day AER general assembly in Naples focused on the imminent
expansion of the European Union and its challenges for European
regions.
Established in 1985, the AER is a political organisation of
European regions founded with the aim of promoting their interests
on the European and international levels.
The organisation currently consists of 250 regions from 28 European
