ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - The ICTY Appeals Chamber on Friday refuted
two court depositions submitted by Croatia in relation to "the
General Janko Bobetko case", the ICTY (International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia) reported. #L#
After the tribunal issued an indictment against this retired
general in September, Zagreb sent two depositions to the tribunal
requesting for the reconsideration of the warrant for Bobetko's
arrest and of the indictment.
The ICTY Prosecution charges Bobetko with war crimes committed in
the Medak Pocket in 1993.
Croatia regards that Bobetko's participation in the process could
have been ensured with more lenient measures stipulated by
procedure for regular court summons.
In addition, Croatia assesses that by confirming the Bobetko
indictment, the Tribunal's judge implicitly confirmed incorrect
allegations that the Medak Pocket operation had been planned as an
illegal action for the accomplishment of criminal goals.
