Djapic told reporters in Osijek that his party had been warning for
years that the tribunal, as a political instrument, would
eventually "determine the composition of the Croatian army and the
political scene".
By forwarding the indictment against Bobetko to the competent
court, Prime Minister Ivica Racan went back on his promise that he
would take no such action without consultations with and the
consent of the parliament, Djapic said.
"This means that the government has given up its legal dispute with
the tribunal because it decided to forward the indictment, which
contains some absolutely unacceptable elements, even before the
tribunal's Appeals Chamber made a decision (on Croatia's two
appeals to the Bobetko indictment)," Djapic said.
Commenting on a constitutional bill on national minorities, Djapic
said it was unacceptable that the "model of election of minority MPs
is the main issue of minority status in Croatia". The HSP opposes
the proposal on a separate minority constituency as well as the
proposal that the number of minority representatives in the
executive authorities depend on their share in the overall
population.
