MPs had submitted 429 amendments to the draft budget, demanding an
additional three billion kuna.
The government turned down all MPs' amendments but adopted parts of
some in various forms. It will also propose that parliament debate
five of its own amendments.
The government will save 43.5 million kuna in several budgetary
items, reducing expenditure from a previously planned 87.879
billion to 87.836 billion kuna, including the payment of foreign
loans.
In its amendments the government increases budgetary funds for
reforms in the judiciary, agriculture, education and science by 661
million kuna.
The government also proposes cutting expenditure for salaries by
160 million kuna and reducing investments in Croatian Motorways and
Croatian Roads by some 450 million kuna.
The formulated amendments and draft budget were forwarded into
parliament. The budget for 2003 is expected to be adopted on
December 4 or 5.
