Just as in the past two years, MPs of the Croatian Democratic Union and the Democratic Centre requested that maternity allowances be returned to the 2000 level, namely that the allowance for working mothers amount to 1,600-2,500 kuna and for unemployed mothers to 1,600 kuna. a final bill on the execution of the 2003 state budget, as well as a

and the Democratic Centre requested that maternity allowances be
returned to the 2000 level, namely that the allowance for working
mothers amount to 1,600-2,500 kuna and for unemployed mothers to
1,600 kuna.
The ruling coalition benches supported the 2003 draft budget and
the bill on budget execution, saying the bill regulated the rights,
responsibilities and procedure of budget execution in relation to
its beneficiaries.
One of the new aspects of the law is that the right to financial
compensation for maternity leave is also envisaged for the father
of the baby.
The government has been allowed to incur a debt up to 3.9 billion
kuna (EUR0.52 billion) for the construction or reconstruction of
highways.
The budget execution bill also introduces stricter criteria for
issuing state guarantees.
Under the bill, the stock capital of the Croatian Bank for
Reconstruction and Development will be increased by 590.5 million
kuna (EUR79.8 million) to subsidise interest rates on and the share
in loans encouraging export. The bill also elaborates farm
support.
The bill also abolishes the possibility of instalment payments of
obligations towards the state (taxes).
