Parliament wrapped up today's sitting by closing a debate on the
draft budget revision and one on amendments to the law on the
execution of this year's state budget.
The budget for next year should be addressed tomorrow.
Revenues according to the revised 2002 budget remain as planned,
while expenditure and the deficit are decreased, Kustrak said after
the debate in which opposition MPs refused to support the draft,
stating it was an attempt by the authorities to legalise the
unlawful spending of budgetary funds.
The government with the 628 million kuna revision wishes to
additionally stabilise public finances and cut the deficit, said
Kustrak.
Opposition MPs, especially from the Croatian Democratic Union and
the Croatian Bloc, said that with the revision the government was
saving without justification by reducing social items, such as
childbirth allowances and layettes, reducing funds for pensions
for disabled war veterans and their housing, and reducing funds for
exhumations and the identification of war victims.
MPs will vote on the draft revised budget and amendments to the law
on the execution of this year's state budget on Thursday or Friday.
