Wrapping up a debate on a government-moved draft budget for 2003 in
parliament on Friday, Crkvenac announced the government would
consider all objections and suggestions the MPs have stated
regarding the draft, as well as their amendments, which can be
submitted by Nov. 20.
Crkvenac refuted some media claims to the effect that the
government had prepared one draft for parliament and another for
the International Monetary Fund (IMF). There is only one 2003 draft
budget which the government will fine-tune in the coming weeks, he
said.
In their final addresses, MPs announced numerous amendments to the
draft. The Opposition stated it would not support it, while the
ruling coalition benches said they would.
It was said during debate that it was unclear which items would be
tapped to cut the budget by 250 million kuna (EUR33.3 million), as
requested by the IMF.
